Let's Start at the Beginning

Starting a blog is daunting. When I decided to do this, I had a head full of great ideas. There was so much I wanted to say and I had so many plans for what I wanted my blog to become. Thinking about the possibilities made me feel excited, motivated, and ready. But then I sat down to begin, and all I felt was overwhelmed.

Faced with
beginning, I suddenly realized that I had no idea where to start. So instead of typing, I just sat, staring helplessly at a blank screen. The endless possibilities made me unable to begin to grasp even one.

But then it hit me:
Where do I start? Well, that's exactly the problem, isn't it? Deciding to become more organized can feel much like starting a blog: very exciting, but also very overwhelming. So, where do you start? The answer is simple,
Start small. Just like a blog, organization doesn’t have to happen all at once. It’s a project. It takes time. It’s a process; it has to be developed.

So when you want to become more organized but feel crushed under the task, the best place to start is with just one thing. Choose just one thing and do it: Sort through that mail pile on your kitchen table, or file all those papers on your desk. Clean out that kitchen cabinet, or go through your overstuffed dresser drawers. (Write one entry in your brand new, empty blog!)

Choose one thing and do it. An when it's done, tomorrow or next week or next month, you’ll choose one other thing, and then you’ll just do that.
